Thanksgiving - Trying to Mix Family and Students Together!

We made turkey for Thanksgiving for both my family (15 of us including David and me, my son and grandson (!!! First holiday with this 5-year-old grandson! And first holiday in a long time with my son!), Dad and step-mom, step-sister and brother and their families.) and then for students! And we had one former student travel from where she lives in California now to share the holiday with us!

I had lots of help preparing rolls, and pies, and all the family traditions... (Spinach Dip and Bread Bowl, Chocolate Chip Pie... But we didn't get the Hot Toddy Sauce made.)

We enjoyed watching "How to Train Your Dragon" at the end of the day and some of us started putting a puzzle together!

Fun Afternoon

Had a fun afternoon, grocery shopping, sharing dinner with international students, and watching her first Narnia movie, Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

It's been too long...  Nice to be with you again.

Students Dropping in on us... :-)

We love it when students drop in on us!  LH came by for something and ended up enjoying breakfast with us!  :-)

A Random Day...

Today started with the very good news about our friend in Costa Rica and his success in establishing a Bible study at his university.

Devotional time led to this concise summary of how I feel about Jesus and salvation.

Then came a driving lesson with N from a Middle Eastern country. She's doing better and better.

Next came lunch with a friend from childhood. We had a wonderful visit, but I forgot to take a picture of her...

I threw in a walk after dropping the Bug off at the auto shop. (Don't ask... )

I do love the changing colors of Fall...

Now I'll focus on some thank you notes, updating my pray-ers (those people who pray for me... If you want to be added to the list, let me know!), and the ever present tidying and cleaning up...

Then we're off to Prayer Meeting at the church and a birthday dinner out with David's son, and a chance to catch up with him.

A Nice Day...

More From Costa Rica

Haha!  I heard from JRM in Costa Rica again this morning...

I'm so encouraged and jazzed by the link he sent me!

See how his time in the U. S. affected him:

Lunch on Sunday...

It's always a blessing to take students with us to lunch on Sunday. Last Sunday we went to an all American restaurant for hamburgers, Red Robin...

Sunday Dinners Continue!

We've continued to enjoy serving international students dinner on Sundays. At the end of August we had about 75 people come, but most weeks are usually around 55 to 65.

We've added a word game
at the beginning at  5:30

Many people from all over the world
We encourage people to meet two or three others so they won't get overwhelmed by how many are coming...

Driving Practice And Dairy Queen

9/11/14

I helped a new Chinese scholar practice for his driving test.

The test was next Tuesday but he was getting tired...  What better way to refresh him than his first trip to Dairy Queen?!!!

Friday Night Study

Friday Night Study continues to be well attended.

We start with a Conversation Corner where students get a chance to practice their English as we play a word game.

Next comes dinner. (If you or your group would like to contribute a dish or cook the whole dinner, we'd gratefully received it!)  Our friendships go so much deeper when we eat together, and community is formed. Loneliness begins to be thwarted.

Singing is led by a man from Uganda...

The study is designed to result in discovery.

We finish off with dessert and more visiting.

Back/Pool (!!!)

8/11/14

My back went out...
Traveling too much to San Francisco and back to help my cousin
I've been doing this since July 7.
I was actually in Reno last week for the whole week.  But did a lot of driving then, too.
A doctor in our church helped me.
Many supplements, diet regimen for 30 days and exercises...
Please pray that I heal quickly.
He even thinks he can help my foot.
:)

It's a fallen world.
We all have problems sooner or later.
But I haven't been taking care of the temple He gave me.
I'd rather my problems come later, rather than sooner!

One wonderful thing about being here is the pool we have...
It's huge
beautiful
and the water is very warm!
So now I will swim every day I'm here.

I'll be taking SM from India back this weekend. (I'm only about 30 minutes from San Jose.)
I need to ask LS from China if she wants to come too...

Then hopefully next week will be our last week here.

But that's 10 days in the pool...
